ESP & Windows 7

Back in 2007, early reports of Windows Vista - as well as our own experiences - were so bad that we took the decision that we wouldn’t officially ‘support’ it. This didn’t mean declining to help, just that we couldn’t recommend buying it and may have to conclude technical support instances with the sentiment ‘Well, that’s just Vista for you!’. We think that strategy was proven right – in the last 2 years we have not encountered a single client wanting a machine with Vista and have downgraded scores of new PCs to Windows XP instead.

It’s been a different situation with Windows 7!!

The positive ‘vibe’ in the industry has been tangible – magazines, websites and forums abound with rave reviews – and colleagues working with a similar client base to ESP also appear to be very happy with the system. We absolutely share your concerns about compatibility and useability. That’s why we are always testing new technologies. Several months ago we installed a very early Beta version of 7 on a 3 year old laptop fully expecting it to fall over. It didn’t. What’s more, that laptop is still used today and the member of staff it belongs to claims that it works better with Windows 7 than it ever did with XP. Needless to say, that finding has meant that everyone wanted it, and to date half of our staff are now running wholly under Windows 7…

So, will Windows 7 be supported by ESP? The answer is a definite yes. We think it is better, faster, easier to use and possibly even more reliable than XP. Will we be selling it? The answer is yes…and no! Computers sold after October 22nd are likely to be shipped with Windows 7. We will offer buyers the choice of Windows 7 or a downgrade to XP with a small labour charge levied. Our sales team will be happy to advise on whether Windows 7 is right for you, but we also hope you will read articles like this and others to help inform your choice.. best of luck!
