Ever wondered what ESP engineers do when call levels are low? Well, all the staff here love our clients so much, they are always on the look out for new and more efficient ways to manage and administer them! Indeed, for contract clients, we do a weekly check on your server to examine AV system, event logs, backups and windows updates. On top of this though, and for larger clients, we are gradually deploying WSUS (Windows Software Update Services). The server component of WSUS is installed on a computer running Windows Server 2003 operating system. The WSUS service provides the features that we need to manage and distribute updates for the Microsoft products installed on all of your PC’s through a Web-based tool, which can be accessed by ESP. The latest version of WSUS includes the ability for us to identify, target and report on the updates received by all of the PC’s that are joined to your server. We can also roll-out or remove updates remotely (at a convenient time, of course) from the WSUS service. And that is great news for clients - Windows and Office updates often cure some of the niggles and oddities on your PC. Moreover, some of them also bring you new functionality and security improvements. Historically it has been difficult to ensure all PC’s are up-to-date, which would involve a site-visit and a lot of disruption. With this new service though, we will minimise time spent administering updates, so more freedom for you from annoying niggles (and ESP engineers!).
