The End of XP
Monday, 23 April 2007

Microsoft has announced the beginning of the end for Windows XP. As of early 2008, large manufactures will not be able to sell new PC’s with the operating system at their heavily discounted OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) rate. Other forms of licensing will continue to exist beyond that point.
Whilst technical support, fixes and other updates will still be available for several years, this effectively means that for the vast number of new PC’s sold, there will be no option but to take Windows Vista (unless you have access to a volume license for Windows XP).

Microsoft have pointed out that this policy is no different from that used in previous versions of Windows and that the planned lifecycle for the XP operating system has been widely published for some time.
