Research Shows Need to Invest |
52% of voluntary and community organisations believe that they could greatly improve their effectiveness with the help of better ICT facilities, while 46% claim that it could be improved to some extent, according to the results of a new survey. The survey, carried out
- by the Worshipful Company of Information Technologists (WCIT) and the ICT Hub, also found that 63% of charities believe that a lack of funding prevents them from making better use of ICT.The online survey received almost 500 responses, and was designed to find out how voluntary and community organisations use and fund ICT. Other findings include: 88% of VCOs believe their planned spending on ICT support costs is either not enough or completely inadequate
- 59% of VCOs find it very difficult to get funding for IT support contracts and staff
David Edwards, from WCIT said: "What this research shows, is that the voluntary sector needs to invest in ICT. It can't do that without appropriate funding. We will be working with the ICT Hub to ensure that bodies that fund charities know that proper funding for ICT should be included when funding services, and that ICT support is something that organisations cannot do without. We will also be providing pro bono resources for the voluntary sector through iT4Communities, our ICT volunteering programme."
