Published by CharityFinance, and available in the resources section of ESP’s website, this years survey of 300 charities raises some interesting points about the use of ICT in the sector:
- 90% of respondents say they do not intend to upgrade to Windows Vista this year
- 34% now have IT representation on their governing bodes (this has doubled since 2006) yet over 60% of organisations with a turnover of less than £1m have failed to include references to IT in their strategic planning
- Maintenance & support costs of IT are roughly equal to capital expenditure, both comprising around 30% of organisations’ IT budgets
- Sage continues to dominate the market for accounting software, having 51% of market share
- The Donor Strategy, Raisers Edge, Donorflex and Funderfinder packages are very highly recommended by users
- Reduced overheads and access to IT professionals remain the strongest reasons for outsourcing IT support, which continues to gain in popularity
